Dogfight: The Great War Guide

World War I saw the first wide-scale deployment of airplanes in war. Dogfight: The Great War is an airplane game where players take to the skies of Western Europe and relive the birth of combat airpower. This shooting game features outstanding graphics, epic music, and ten challenging levels. You can also go head-to-head against a friend in a 2 player game.

The objective of Dogfight: The Great War is to shoot down all enemy aircraft. The one-player campaign features ten missions and saves your progress as you complete each, so you can continue from where you left off the next time that you play. The two player game mode pits players in dogfights against each other, with each player given four AI-controlled wingmen. Not all wingmen have to be shot down in the 2 player game mode; shooting down the human player is enough to score. Two player games continue until the "Quit" button in the lower-right corner is clicked.

Although the instructions of Dogfight: The Great War say that player one uses the arrow keys to move and that player two uses the W and S keys to move, this is actually reversed. Player one uses the W and S keys to move and the left shift key to shoot. Player two uses the up and down arrow keys to move and the enter key to shoot. These controls cannot be fully customized, but you can choose to reverse the direction that the keys move your fighter in under the controls section of the options menu.

You do not have to worry about mid-air collisions in Dogfight: The Great War. In fact, you can fly through trees and even houses; only crashing into solid ground will hurt you. Try to maintain altitude to avoid slamming into the ground, and concentrate on shooting down your opponents and dodging enemy fire. In a 2 player game, if a human player crashes their opponent will score the point for the round.

Dogfight: The Great War is a fun airplane game that harkens back to the days of The Red Baron, Rene Fonck, and Eddie Rickenbacker. The primary campaign is fun, but this shooting game is even more fun taking to the skies against a buddy in a two player game!
